Rookie Agent Rouge finished broadcasting October 21st. Even so, Zhao Liying still has 4 dramas broadcasting simultaneously right now. Hunan TV is re-broadcasting Wife’s Secret. Jiangsu TV will re-broadcast Rookie Agent Rouge. Southeast TV is re-broadcasting Best Get Going in the morning, and Boss & Me in the afternoon.
UPDATED: Zhao Liying promotional pictures, and Tao singing Teardrops on my Guitar on Real Man
Statistics that have come out:
- For the first half of 2016, The Translator had the highest ratings. The sequel, The Negotiator, is expected to be promoted in Korea as well. The drama already has a Korean title and it hasn’t started filming yet. There’s speculation that Huang Zitao will play the experienced negotiator who trains Yang Mi‘s character, an intern (I’m excited to hear Tao speak Korean again). It appears that the sequel will focus on Chinese-Korean relations. This subject is a hot topic right now as SARFT (the government body that regulates the film/television industry in China) has now officially banned Korean dramas altogether. Now, K-dramas can no longer be broadcast online as well as on TV. The reason for banning K-dramas (and Korean actors) is that these dramas have had such a negative impact on Chinese people causing exhaustion (lack of sleep due to watching these dramas) and even death. Moreover, SARFT says that it will review each episode of shows to evaluate whether elements included can be shown on television and online. As a result, Ice Fantasy cannot air any more episodes. The remaining episodes are banned from appearing on TV and online. UPDATE: It appears that IF has decided to fully edit the show in order to continue airing (still unsure what the final outcome is, but they said they might still air!). Also, SARFT will start regulating what is being broadcast online. Thus, some new dramas with Korean actors and with time-travelling/fantasy/LGBTQ love elements are most likely never going to see the light of day
- Hunan TV have the highest ratings of all the TV channels. In second place is Zhejiang TV. Dongfang TV is third. Jiangsu TV is fourth. Beijing TV is fifth.

Takes a Real Man started airing today. It appears that He Jiong is the host/narrator. The first episode is already subbed and can be found here (please at least watch from the 16min mark to the 18min mark, it’s so funny):
During his break while training on Real Man, Huang Zitao starts singing “Teardrops on My Guitar” by Taylor Swift
Are you saying IF will not finish airing at all?ARE YOU SURE? It is my source of happiness. That drama also has many international fans too.So what will happen? It stopped airing last week and saw on fb that they will start airing again this week and will finish in 10 NOV.
And No.I dun want Fantasy elements to be removed.

Hi yamin, looks like IF will edit out elements banned by SARFT to continue airing. I updated it on the post. I’m not unsure to what extent those fantasy elements will be edited 😐 can’t tell you… I hope you will still enjoying the show!

Are there some bts/scene that were not in it videos for rookie agent rouge?

yes iQIYI released some short clips of bts scenes. Sadly I don’t think anyone has uploaded them to youtube.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Ice Fantasy was moved to Wednesdays and Thursdays for airing?

From what I know, it’s not airing at all. This is another source that says the same thing – http://www.inquisitr.com/3618839/ice-fantasy-cdrama-not-airing-new-episodes-because-of-sarft-regulations-did-chinese-government-kill-off-international-expansion-of-chinese-entertainment/

lol the lie about Ice Fantasy being the number one drama in China at the moment. It sucks for fans that were watching it.
I wonder if that is how Viki landed Chusen. Since they bought the rights to Ice Fantasy but they wont be able to finish it, Hunan had to give them something else.

LOL when the lie is so far from the truth! The lengths people go to just to diss China though.. I didn’t even think about that. Maybe??

Is that how it was for the Legend of Chusen thing? Since Viki got the license two days ago, they might as well get the license for Sparrow as well since it’s doing well (enough ish). I’m surprised why Viki isn’t going out to get more Chinese dramas on its website because they have a large number of fan channels for Chinese dramas.
As for the article, such amateur journalism.

I was just theorizing. I think the movement to get Chusen licensed was bigger than Sparrow. Since some episodes had been subbed it had some demand and a fanbase on Viki. And for some reason wuxias do better than spy dramas.
I agree on Viki. They really need to jump on Chinese dramas, so far that was their big advantage over their competition. However, DF is moving on their territory licensing some popular dramas recently.

really? I checked on weibo and they said ice fantasy just got moved to a different time slot, although I can see how it would be a cover-up for SARFT investigations. I do think it’ll keep airing in China though.

Thus far, new episodes haven’t come out in 2 weeks… I mean, it is possible that Ice Fantasy can edit their episodes enough for broadcast. But, SARFT has VERY strict limitations so I don’t know how that will look/work. As of right now, Ice Fantasy hasn’t passed SARFT investigations. It will have to change a lot or else the remaining episodes cannot air. In China, Ice Fantasy is no longer available online because the previous episodes were banned

I see they’re still online on Chinese streaming sites and Dramafever, but I do see on dramafever they mentioned it was canceled for a week due to SARFT regulation. In China, they did announce they’ve moved it to Wednesday time slot, so hopefully we’ll see some new episodes this week (unless of course since weibo is so censored by the chinese gov, that the moving time slots thing was just a cover up for SARFT)

It’s actually becoming predictable what SARFT will ban. Just look at whatever is successfully being aired on HunanTV and then it becomes inevitable that it will be banned somewhere down the line. From way back during the days of Super Girl (live voting) to variety shows (Happy Camp) to time travelling and fantasy.
The government has something against HunanTV (maybe because it is so successful and always manages to come up with new ideas).

Watched the first episode subbed and enjoyed it – very entertaining!
Sun Yang does come off as a bit off a BMOC prick, Tao a brat (sorry Victaorious!) , the oldest participant a brown noser and Yang Mi a princess used to getting her own way – all great entertainment value! On team Tong Li Ya !!!

Quick question: So the dramas that Iqiyi announced will be broadcast accordingly ?
It’s a bummer for dramas that have not broadcast, finish filming, or is in production process like that one drama with Wang Li Kun and JC or LSS and WC drama…
Also sad for Ice Fantasy since it was a different type of drama than the usual ones.
Takes a Real Man… poor Tao at the 16 min mark but I couldn’t stop smiling lol.

It’s a random order, I think. I do wonder what will happen to those dramas, maybe they can just cut the time-travelling aspect. LOL I couldn’t stop laughing. Did you watch the clip?!

Yeah I’ve watch the episode partially lol. I’m glad someone subbed it because I kinda went blank at the very beginning part. I also saw Tao’s Taylor Swift clip lol. His nunchucks haha.

When is the ban in effect? There are many fantasy dramas. Even Chusen is a fantasy drama.
LikeLike
Chusen is still very much a wuxia. Fantasy is something detached from Chinese culture whereas wuxias are based around Chinese martial arts

so even if it has fantasy elements as long as it is attached to Chinese martial arts, it is not considered a fantasy? Does this ban apply to international shows? A lot of popular shows in America have fantasy elements like Vampire Diaries, Game of Thrones, etc.

Starting this week (the ban) so this week’s Ice Fantasy episodes did not air

Thanks. So confusing lol I thought Chusen is more like xianxia

This is weird, Tribes and empires is fastasy too, how it didn’t get ban? I’m really worried about xianxia dramas. I’m waiting for 3lives 3worlds so bad and what if they put it off eternally.

For now, 3 lives haven’t been bought to be broadcast on TV. It finished filming months ago, so that’s odd. Hopefully, it can still be shown

What!! I’ve heard about banning korean and time traveling dramas but fantasy also? That’s waaaay to restricted.
I saw the first ep of takes a real man. It was pretty entertaining and funny!!

Apparently, fantasy is banned too. It is a lot of restriction. I haven’t had time to watch it yet, but happy to hear it’s fun!!! Can’t wait to see it 😊

LOL, sounds like an excuse, all these Korean drama banning. Either way, these kdramas will find their way illegally online. The problem is that this means less profits for the producers/actors of both countries. Oh wel.. v_v
Excited to see Princess Agents, it is going to be soooo goood!!! For next year, I want to watch Princess Agents, General and I, Hunting and Tribes and Empires. So much good stuff coming up!

It might be difficult to even watch K-dramas now. The Chinese government is determined to monitor and ban Korean dramas/actors. To be honest, I think it was Korean actors/entertainment companies who benefited. With this policy, Chinese actors/companies will earn more. Anyways, I’m so excited for Princess Agents !!!

ZLY all day every day, I love it!!! Glad she’s getting all this recognition 😍. Banning Kdramas like is it that extreme, I mean I understand they are addicting but i didn’t know it could lead to death. Is this real or do they just want to ban them for another reason. LOOKING FORWARD TO TRIBES AND EMPIRES💓💓💓

It’s likely an excuse. This is happening because South Korea have sided with the United States to go against China politically. So, the Chinese government no longer wishes to work with South Korea in any way

That makes more sense because the whole you could die seems too extreme

Wow so they are getting rid of fantasy dramas? How does that work with wuxias? I always see wuxias as fantasy dramas. More restrictions and censorships will get us nowhere. I don’t know how fantasy dramas can be bad.
Anyways happy more info is coming out about Princess Agents. Six episodes a week sounds like a lot. I am really excited about this drama so I hope it lives up to my expectations.
Here is a mini trailer, you only see a few clips.

As for The Negotiator, YanMi looks too old to have Tao teaching her stuff. I think it would be better the other way around.

Wuxia is supposed to be martial art so well imprinted in Chinese culture. I am more worried for the xianxia genre (fantasy stories based mostly on video games and online novels). Ahlala, so many bans it is getting ridiculous.
And, yes, omg! Yang Mi teaching a rebellious Tao would be so fun to watch!!

I see the difference. I do think wuxias have a lot of fantasy, but they will probably make a distinction. Bans are ruining dramas. I hate when I am watching a drama and something doesn’t make sense just because it was cut due to bans.

The Chinese government can definitely stop dramas from airing (halfway and otherwise). Many of the paparazzi photos exposing celebrities’ relationships are taken by journalists hired by the government. Since it’s a communist government, they tend to monitor everything
LikeLike
They definitely can. Unlike Fan Bing Bing’s Empress Wu Zetian (which was a grand historical drama that apparently showed too much skin), Ice Fantasy would be impossible to edit to fit SARFT’s new criteria. So may as well just stop airing.
