Plot/Synopsis

Tian San Qi is a young girl living in Shifang village with her parents who run a funeral business. She is talented in autopsies and solving mysteries, but her weird hobbies make the other villagers scared of her and no one wants to marry her. However, Tian San Qi only has eyes for her “Xiao Ge-ge”, a young boy she once befriended in the past. But it’s been 8 years and he has yet to reappear.

Tian San Qi then bumps into Zhao Cuo and Bai Yi Fei, both men who she suspects to be her “Xiao Ge-ge”. However, without any proof, she cannot determine which of them is the one she’s been waiting for. She later rules it out to be Zhao Cuo after hearing that he had a similar past to hers of meeting a young girl.

But Tian San Qi’s hopes are lost when she is forced to marry the Young Lord of Taoyuan City, He Zhen. Unwilling to submit to her fate, she runs away and takes on another identity, He Jin Xin, and ends up marrying Zhao Cuo. From then on, she tries to find out if Zhao Cuo is truly her “Xiao Ge-ge”….

And that’s a wrap…!

Overall Thoughts

Another rom-com in historical China… I personally felt that the comedy in this drama was hilarious. I found myself laughing every second, and I totally loved the vibe of the drama. Although I was indifferent to the female lead, I really loved all of the other characters. My favorite characters are actually the seconds leads, Bai Yi Fei and He Ruo Yao. Both of them were cute and adorable together, and I loved them every time they were on screen.

So, the premise of this drama follows our female lead, Tian San Qi. She is an adorable village girl who has the knacks for autopsies. Not to mention, she is also smart and good at solving cases. Fortunately, her talents are acknowledged, and she ends up getting a job and working with Zhao Cuo and his father in solving cases in the Southern City. However, the cases throughout this drama aren’t so interesting. But it is nice to see that Tian San Qi isn’t some Mary Sue character who always needs saving. The girl can handle her own and she’s smart—which I think makes her a great female character. And while the cases that she solves aren’t so interesting, they actually all connect to one person. This person ends up being the ultimate bad guy that they have to face off against at the end of the drama, so it makes sense that the drama was building up for it. So, at least the cases weren’t entirely meaningless and actually served a purpose.

Aside from Tian San Qi, we’re also introduced to three other lead characters. Zhao Cuo, our male lead and the Tian San Qi’s husband. He’s your typical male lead—young and arrogant, but is nice on the inside. Fortunately, Zhao Cuo is likable. He’s handsome and definitely full of himself, but he still matches Tian San Qi quite well. My favorite characters, however, are Bai Yi Fei and He Ruo Yao—the secondary leads. He Ruo Yao is pretty much a princess (although there really isn’t a true “emperor” in the drama) and Bai Yi Fei is Zhao Cuo’s frenemy. The relationship between these two is actually very cute and adorable. He Ruo Yao enters the team dressed as a male, so the two male leads believe her to be another man trying to woo Tian San Qi over. Fortunately, the two female leads quickly figure out their genders and become friends. Bai Yi Fei is skeptical of He Ruo Yao in the beginning. He doesn’t like her and think she’s trying to steal Tian San Qi away from him. But the more he spent time with her, he starts to fall for her. Of course, he does this still believing that He Ruo Yao is a male. And this is where he starts to question himself hilariously. But when he finds out about He Ruo Yao’s female identity, that’s when they officially get together. One thing for sure that I love about their relationship is that He Ruo Yao is definitely the dominant one in the relationship. She’s assertive, overbearing, and bossy. She doesn’t hold back, and she knows what she wants. Bai Yi Fei, on the other hand, is extremely passive, calm, and never in a hurry. Basically, they’re both completely opposites of each other. But it works out in their favor because He Ruo Yao helps Bai Yi Fei come out of his shell and he helps her take a step back when she needs to.

Anyway, another reason why I liked this drama is because it’s simple. It doesn’t have a heavy storyline and is an easy watch. There are definitely some hidden secrets in this drama near the end, but it’s not something that’ll over your head. I actually liked the pacing of this drama, and I like that it’s not hard to catch on to what’s going on between the characters.

Overall, if you want an easy drama with lots of fluffy romance and hilarious comedy altogether, then definitely check it out. Don’t expect to be wowed by everything. But to expect to be entertained and fall in love with the lead characters along the way. I don’t think this drama is everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re a sucker for hilarious cheesy dramas, then I would definitely try this drama out.

  1. Glad to see someone else giving some love to this drama. I loved it..the OTT humour really works for it and had me laughing throughout the drama. Unlike you, I prefer ZhaiCuo and his interactions with everyone lol. Agree with you the girl is just serviceable. BaiYiFei is of cos really hilarious as well. This show reminds me a bit of Lovely Swords Girl which I also loved.
