Feature: Popular actresses on the big screen

tumblr_oqmpp1osuc1sakenqo1_540_zpsy37tlatp

It only looks at actresses born in the 80’s. However, for some reason it doesn’t include Fan Bing Bing or Yuan Shan Shan, who are pretty successful on the big screen. The box office accumulation doesn’t just take into account if the actress was first billed, it seems to accumulate all recent works. Also the average box office is misleading since some actresses don’t have that many movies and if one of them was really successful, it drives up the average, e.g. Zhao Liying/Sandra Ma. While others who have a lot of movies can have a lower number. I just took the general information and organized it by total box office amount.

Bai Baihe gets the best box office results and she also has the best Douban scores. She also currently has the second highest all time grossing Chinese movie. YangMi does pretty good too when it comes to box office results. Angelababy gets Running Man as her best known work since there was a movie about the show.

Most of these ladies have upcoming movies this year or early next year. They are slowly making strides as a new generation of successful movie stars. Some upcoming works:

  1. It is a shame they didn’t include 90s. Zhou Dongyu is such a strong name holder 😛 I enjoy Bai Baihe and Ni Ni’s performances the most. Angelababy also have her moments ~

      1. which is funny, because I would assume her image would not fit a whole lot of roles, but I guess when you get praise like she has been lately, roles will just be created for you

  2. I have never known Yuan Shanshan was a movie star. She was always linked to Yu Zheng for me.
Bai Baihe is doing so well. Hopefully the scandal won’t affect her too much.

I feel like the 70s actresses have set the bar too high. Zhao Wei, Zhou Xun, Zhang Ziyi, Shu Qi etc are all movie legends.

    1. I dont think everyone on this post qualifies as a movie star. I would say most are trying to be one. Yuan Shanshan has at least one very successful movies, Jian Bing Man, so I expected she would be mentioned.

Yep, Bai Baihe has the best numbers out of all actresses in recent years. It does seem that way and they are still doing really good.

      1. Her numbers aren’t that good though, especially she has been pretty doing only movies… while most of the actresses in this list does both
Her husband’s are much better though.

        1. they are not, except for that one movie. But she would still place a bit higher than some others on this list.
